Mock ups for coursework

Mock Ups For My Magazine

This is my mock up of my front cover. I used the house style of NME to make it. I have included skyline, straplines, masthead, images and a kicker to the style of NME. My main colours will be Red, Yellow and Black. For my proper front cover I have changed some of the positioning around as they didn't fit in where I put them on my mock up.

This is my mock up of my contents page. I have used the house style of NME's contents page. I have used the listing as NME does of whats inside the magazine. I have also added in a subcription box like most magazines use. Like with the front cover the main colours will be red, yellow and black.

These are the double page spread mock ups. I have tried to create them so they are the styke of NME. The main colours will be of the pictures also I will used Red and Black for the title's.

Music Magazine - Research For Main Task 2 - NME House Style

The title NME sounds like enemy which is subversive as it sounds rebellious which fits in with the genre of the magazine. The main image which is dominated by the women as she could be the lead singer of a band also it is subversive as she is wearing leather clothing which is shown to be the most rebellious clothing. Also the leather adds to the sex appeal of the magazine.
The camera angle is looking down on the woman and man who are both lying down. A normal high angle shot gives vulnerability to the subject. But in this magazine it doesn't show them as vulnerable it makes them look superior, as the woman is looking down on the camera.
The strap lines used are non judgemental as it is as if they are promoting the bad in society. But usually in gossip magazines they portray drugs, murder and twisted love as being bad in society.
The Album verdict of the "Kaiser Chiefs F***ed up" also adds to the rebellion theme of the magazine. As expletives are shown to be used by people who rebel against what other people believe.
''My life with Kurt' Ex Manager Speaks'' shows that this months magazine has exclusivity to the Nirvana band and what Kurt was like when he was alive and why he could have killed himself. Also it shows that the magazine is competing with other magazines on the shelf. So if fans of Nirvana are looking on the shelf they will buy this magazine as it has exclusive interview with the ex manager.

Music Magazine - Research For Main Task

Textual Analysis

NME stands for New Music Express. The magazine is aimed at people who are into indie music. The title NME sounds like enemy so the magazine sounds as if it rebellious and the people who buy it are sterotyped to be rebellious. Also the main image is subverasive which adds to the rebellion theme of the magazine as the Artic Monkeys are holding sledge hammers, which are used to knock down objects, and father christmas is on fire but they are in a setting of a peaceful lapland and wearing elves costumes, which are quite gentle people. The shot to fit the whole bodies of all the group gives them the effect they are superior to the reader also it makes the magazine more identifiable to the auidence on the shelf in the shop. Also the camera angle is looking slighty up at the group which adds to the effect of the Arctic Monkeys being superior to the audience which adds to the rebellious theme of the magazine.
The fonts used on the front cover fit in with the context of the 'Favourite worst nightmare before chirstmas' which is taken from the Film The Nightmare Before Christmas. '100 page', 'Present' and 'Starring' are all written in a ghostly font to give christmas a ghostly view instead of a jolly view.
The colours used for the front cover are bright christmasy colours which are white, yellows and reds also there is the green of the elves costumes which is also a christmas colour. The colours give it a bright view and doesn't really add to the rebellion of the content of the cover.
The langauge used is modern as it is aimed at older teens who are into rebellion and indie music. There is slang like 'Xmas' and big bold lettering to make it easier to read. Also there isn't mases of writing on it because of the target audience as older teens don't want to do mases of reading for a music magazine.
To draw the audience in more to buy this magazine there is an advertisment for free giant posters of The Klaxons and The Kings Of Leon which also add to the rebellion on the magazine. Also The Bands are from the genre on Indie music which the target audience is people who listen to Indie music.
Artic Monkeys and Christmas are in big bold lettering to show that Artic Monkeys Christmas are the main feature of the magazine also it shows it wont be a normal christmas as the Artic Monkeys are about rebellion and Inide music artist which is different from the normal R and B or Hip Hop.
