To create my magazine I thought of a topic and then took images that were associated with the topic. The topic for my magazine is a general Lordswood magazine. I was originally going to do a film and media magazine which is were I got the idea for the film strip but then I decided it would look more effective to do a whole school magazine instead of just doing one particular area. It does focus mainly on the idea of Media as Lordswood is a specialist school for it.
To put my magazine together I put the film stripe on first so I could leave space at the bottom for any further details such as email addresses and telephone numbers which usually appear on general school magazines. I tested out lots of main images but they were more central instead of the width of the cover. Once I had the main image sorted I could edit it in photoshop which took a while as when I cut around the outside it became rough but I managed to smooth most of the lines out. I then put the image in place so I could put the layer the kickers around and on the image, which was quiet difficult as the colour of them clashed with the colour of the main image but I got them in the right place after trying all different places.
The images in the film stripe were easily put into place as I didn't have to cut around their outsides like I had to do with my main image. If I was to do the pictures again I would use a plain background so it would be easily be cut out.
The easiest part of the magazine to do was the title and skyline as I did them first and also the name of the school and the information in the sky line were already available so I could just copy them instead of having to think of a name of the school. The date and price also fitted into place easily in the skyline as most magazine put them where they can be seen. I also added a bar code to the bottom of the cover to add realism to the cover.
Throughout the cover I stuck to a maximum of 3 colours which were yellow, blue and white which are all primary colours which give a simple but affective effect.
Overall I think my magazine cover was successful but if I was to do it again I would make sure I took all the pictures on a plain background so that if I was to use them as the main image I could cut around them easily.
